Joshua 23:1–10 — A Life That Trusts God Alone, Faith That Holds to His Promise
📖 Joshua 23:1–10 — A Life That Trusts God Alone, Faith That Holds to His Promise
10 “One of you routs a thousand, because the Lord your God fights for you, just as He promised.”
✨ Joshua’s final encouragement: Remember the Lord who has given you rest
As Joshua approaches the end of his life, he calls Israel to remember what the Lord has done. Even their safety in the promised land was not earned by their strength but given because God fought for them. When life becomes stable, we easily forget God. Scripture teaches that only by remembering His grace does faith remain firm.
✨ Do not turn from the Law — Holding to the Word is the path of victory
Joshua commands the people to “carefully obey all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses.” This was how they kept their covenant relationship with God. When we drift from His Word, the surrounding culture and idols quickly sway our hearts. But when we stand on His Word, we begin to enjoy the victory God has already given.
✨ Love God alone — Reject the subtle temptations of the world
In Joshua 23:7–8, Joshua warns Israel not even to mention the names of foreign gods. Small compromises eventually take hold of the heart. Instead, he urges them, “Hold fast to the Lord your God, as you have until now.” When we cling to God alone, He gives the strength for one person to rout a thousand. Victory is not our power but His.
