📖 1 John 2:28–3:12 〈 A Life Revealed as God’s Children — Evidence of Light and Love 〉
3:1
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
✨ Abide in Christ and Prepare for the Day of His Appearing
The apostle John gives a clear exhortation to believers: “Abide in him” (1 John 2:28).
This is the only unshakable place in an unstable world.
To abide in Christ is not to live a life trying to prove ourselves by our actions, but to remain in the grace that has already been given to us.
When the Lord appears again, our confidence will not be the result of careful preparation, but the fruit of being held fast in Him.
Those who remain in grace do not fear shame.
✨ We Are God’s Children — An Identity Given by Grace
John awakens us with these words: “That we should be called children of God.”
This identity is a gift, bestowed by the love of God the Father.
The world does not recognize us, but God already knows us.
Though we are not yet fully revealed, we hold the hope that when Christ appears, we shall be like Him.
This hope has the power to purify our lives today.
✨ A Life That Fights Sin — Faith Revealed Through Love
John does not treat sin lightly.
Sin is rebellion against God’s will, and Christ appeared to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8).
Yet the believer’s struggle is the struggle of one who has already been declared righteous.
Therefore, this battle is expressed in the direction of love.
A life that hates a brother belongs to darkness, but a life that loves a brother reveals that it belongs to God.
Love is not the condition for salvation; it is the fruit of salvation.
🙏 Prayer
Loving Father,
We praise You for the grace that has made us Your children.
Thank You for receiving us not because of our works, but because of the righteousness of Christ.
Help us not to compromise with sin, but to pursue holiness with hope, not fear.
May our love for one another reveal that we belong to You,
and may we stand with confidence before our Lord when He comes again.
🔍 Application
• Examine today what it means for you to abide in Christ. Are you living in grace rather than anxiety?
• Check whether your identity is rooted not in achievement, but in being a child of God.
• Consider whether you are treating others not with judgment, but with love—shown in action, not just words.
💡 Meditation Point
Being a child of God is not a future reward, but a present reality.
This grace does not make sin insignificant; rather, it leads us toward holiness with hope.
Lay down the pride of your works today, and live by a faith that bears fruit in love.
To abide in Christ is to walk in the light.
