📖 1 John 5:1–12 〈 Life Born of Faith, Salvation Confirmed by God’s Testimony 〉

12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

✨ Faith Is Not a Human Choice, but Life Born from God

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God (1 John 5:1). Faith is not the result of our initiative or decision; it is the outcome of God first giving us new life.
Therefore, true faith expresses itself through love, and that love joyfully obeys God’s commands. This is not religion that tries to prove itself by works, but obedience that flows naturally from grace.

✨ The Power That Overcomes the World: Our Faith

John proclaims, “This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4). Here, “the world” refers to a system of values and fears that urges us to live apart from God.
We do not overcome by becoming stronger ourselves. We overcome through the faith given to us in union with Christ. The reason God’s commands no longer feel like a heavy burden is that the victory has already been secured.

✨ God’s Own Testimony: Life in the Son

Assurance of salvation rests not on ourselves, but on God’s testimony. God has testified about His Son through the water and the blood—that is, through the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ—and through the inward witness of the Spirit (1 John 5:6–8).
The conclusion of this testimony is unmistakable: life is found only in the Son of God (1 John 5:11–12). Therefore, Christians stand not on a fragile confidence, but on the solid ground of a confirmed and eternal life.

God of life, we lay down the pride that tries to hold onto faith by our own strength. We confess that life is found only in Christ. When our emotions waver, renew our assurance through Your testimony, and lead us to live lives of loving obedience.

• Examine whether the foundation of your faith today was your emotions or God’s testimony.
• Receive God’s commands not as a burden, but as the fruit of grace, and practice one concrete act of obedience.
• Stop trying to prove your victory, and remain in the life that has already been given to you.

Faith is not a human choice but a gift from God, and assurance of salvation is found not within ourselves, but in the Son. Live today with confidence, as one held fast by Christ and His life.
