📖 Matthew 10:1–15 < A Life Sent by the Gospel, A Mission Sustained by Grace >

15 Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.

Authority does not come from our ability, but from the Lord’s calling

Jesus called His twelve disciples to Him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness (Matthew 10:1).
This authority did not originate from human competence, but from grace freely given by the One who first called them.
The disciples were sent not because they were ready, but so that they might be transformed through obedience.
The same is true for us today. Mission always begins with God’s grace.

The gospel is proclaimed not by calculation, but by complete dependence

Jesus instructed His disciples to take no gold, no bag, and no extra clothes for the journey (Matthew 10:9–10).
This was not a call to irresponsibility, but an invitation to radical trust.
Those who proclaim the gospel do not boast in their preparation, but rely on God’s provision.
“Sola Gratia—grace alone” becomes most visible in the field of ministry.
We move forward not by clinging to what we have, but by entrusting ourselves fully to God.

The gospel may be welcomed—or rejected

Jesus taught that if a town or home does not receive the message, the disciples should shake the dust from their feet (Matthew 10:14).
The outcome of the gospel is not our responsibility. Conversion is the work of the Holy Spirit.
We are called to faithfulness, not results.
When the gospel is rejected, do not lose heart. Judgment and salvation rest under God’s righteous sovereignty.
We are not judges, but witnesses.

A sent life already stands on the foundation of grace

Matthew chapter 10 emphasizes not the burden of mission, but the grace that precedes it.
Before the disciples were sent, they were first with Jesus. The same is true for us today.
Before proclaiming the gospel, we must live by the gospel.
Respond to the Lord’s calling not with fear, but with confidence—not with pressure, but with gratitude.

🙏 Prayer

Gracious Lord, we praise You for calling us first and then sending us.
Thank You for entrusting us with the mission of the gospel, knowing our weakness and limitations.
Help us not to fear the outcome, but to trust You fully and walk in obedience.
May we experience Your provision and Your presence as we live and proclaim the gospel each day.

🔍 Application

• Examine whether you are trying to carry out your mission in your own strength.
• Entrust the results of the gospel to God, and remain faithful where you are today.
• Practice reflecting the fragrance of the gospel through small conversations and everyday encounters.

💡 Meditation Point

The life of a disciple who is sent may seem unstable, yet it is the safest place—within God’s grace.
God does not call the prepared; He prepares those whom He calls.
Do not calculate—obey.
The gospel is still powerful, and God is still at work today.
