Matthew 11:1–19 〈 The Light of Grace Shining on a Shaken Faith 〉

📖 Matthew 11:1–19 〈 The Light of Grace Shining on a Shaken Faith 〉

19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say,
“Here is a glutton and a drunkard,
a friend of tax collectors and sinners.”
But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.

✨ Jesus Comes Even to the Place of Doubt

From prison, John the Baptist sent word to Jesus, asking,
“Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?” (Matthew 11:3)

Even John, who had first testified about the Messiah, was shaken.
In the face of suffering, faith is tested.
Yet Jesus does not rebuke him. Instead, He points to His works.

The blind receive sight, the lame walk,
and the good news is preached to the poor.
This reveals that the foundation of faith lies in the saving work of Jesus Himself.

✨ A Messiah Who Did Not Match Expectations

People expected a powerful judge,
but Jesus came as a gentle Savior.
Because of this difference, many stumbled.

Yet God’s work is always deeper than our calculations.
Salvation revealed through the cross may appear weak,
but within it lies the wisdom of God.

Faith means entrusting ourselves to God’s Word
even when we do not fully understand.

✨ God’s Wisdom Revealed Even Through Rejection

Jesus compares this generation to children sitting in the marketplace—
never satisfied, no matter what is done.

John, who preached repentance, was rejected.
Jesus, who shared a table of grace, was also rejected.
But regardless of human judgment,
God’s wisdom is ultimately shown to be right.

The gospel works not by human will,
but by the sovereign grace of God.

🙏 Prayer

Gracious God,
when our faith is shaken, help us trust You who never change.

Hold us firmly to Jesus Christ until the end,
and grant us a faith that responds with obedience rather than mere understanding.
Even in places of doubt, let us see the light of the gospel
and trust in Your wisdom.

🔍 Application

• Bring honestly before the Lord whatever is shaking your faith right now.
• Acknowledge God who works in ways different from your expectations, and obey His Word.
• Choose the gospel by holding onto God’s perspective rather than human opinion.

💡 Meditation Point

Matthew 11 shows us shaken faith alongside unchanging grace.
The gospel is not a story that fulfills our expectations,
but the power of God’s wisdom that saves us.

Today, fix your eyes not on circumstances,
but on the work of Jesus Christ,
and rebuild your faith once again on the foundation of grace.
