📖 Matthew 18:10–20 < The Father’s Heart for the Little Ones >

14 In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.

The God Who Seeks One Little One

Jesus said, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones” (v.10). The world pays attention to the powerful and capable. But God first sees the small and the weak. This reveals His character.

God is holy, yet He is also merciful. The holy God leaves the ninety-nine to go after the one that wandered off (vv.12–13). This is grace. Though humanity is totally depraved, God does not give up.

The Church: A Community That Restores the Lost

Jesus then teaches how to restore a brother who sins (vv.15–17). The goal is not condemnation but restoration. The church is not a gathering of perfect people, but a community called together by grace.

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (v.20). Even a small gathering, when built on the gospel, carries heavenly authority.

Heaven’s Authority, Earth’s Restoration

The authority to “bind and loose” (v.18) refers to the gospel ministry entrusted to the church. It is not human power, but authority grounded in Christ’s Word. Christ’s atonement truly has the power to save the lost.

Therefore, a church that embraces the little ones reflects the heart of God. Let our eyes not remain fixed on what is big and impressive, but turn toward one soul beside us today.

🙏 Prayer

Merciful Father, pour into us Your heart that seeks the weak and wandering. Teach us to choose restoration over judgment. Establish even our small gatherings firmly upon the gospel. Let us share in Your passion for the lost.

🔍 Application

  • Examine whether you have overlooked a weak member.

  • In conflict, pursue restoration through conversation and prayer.

  • Build the church through Scripture and prayer, even with just two or three.

💡 Meditation Point

God moves for even one little one. The church exists to display that heart. Today, obey His will for one soul.
