📖 Matthew 26:1–13 < A Holy “Waste” for the Lord >

7 A woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.

✨ Love Is Not Calculated

A woman broke an expensive jar of perfume and poured it on Jesus. People said, “Why this waste?” but Jesus called it “a beautiful thing.”
This scene reveals the essence of the gospel. The gospel is not driven by calculation or efficiency, but by a wholehearted response to grace. Therefore, true faith appears as “devotion that looks like waste.”

✨ The Gospel Breaks the Heart

This woman did not simply offer perfume; she broke what was most precious to her. This shows the essence of conversion. Biblical conversion is a turning point where the entire direction of life changes.
Why does such change happen? Because the gospel renews the heart. God loved us first, and we respond to that love. This is the reality of “by grace alone, through faith alone.”

✨ Not Waste, but Worship

By the standards of the world, it looks like a loss. But in the kingdom of God, it is worship.
Faith, therefore, is not a condition but a response. This woman’s act was not duty, but an expression of love—not calculation, but devotion.

🙏 Prayer

Gracious God, thank You for giving us the gospel. Break our calculating hearts and lead us to live in love for You. Help us to live as true worshipers, offering ourselves sincerely and without holding back. May we deeply understand the grace of Jesus Christ and live in response to His love.

🔍 Application

  • Examine whether you are living your faith with calculation.

  • Consider whether you can offer your most precious things to God.

  • As one who has received the gospel, commit to living a life that responds in love.

💡 Meditation Point

Those who have experienced the gospel no longer calculate. God has already given everything for us. Today, believe that a life offered to the Lord is not “waste,” but the most beautiful act of worship—and devote yourself with joy.
