📖 Matthew 26:57–68 < The Unjust Trial That Condemns the Son of God >
64 “You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
✨ Humans Judge the Truth, Christ Stands in Silence
Jesus stands before the high priest and the council, undergoing an unlawful trial. False witnesses are brought forward, and the verdict is already decided. This is the most unjust judgment disguised as justice. When humans consider themselves righteous, they end up condemning the truth. This is the essence of sin.
Yet Jesus does not defend Himself. He remains silent. His silence is not defeat, but obedience—receiving judgment in our place.
✨ God’s Redemptive Plan Revealed in an Unjust Trial
This moment is not merely human evil, but unfolds within God’s redemptive plan. Jesus declares that “the Son of Man will sit at the right hand of Power.” Though He is condemned now, He proclaims that He will return as Judge.
Through receiving unjust judgment, Jesus satisfies God’s justice for our sin. This is the truth of Solus Christus—Christ alone.
✨ The Condemned One Becomes Our Righteousness
People spit on Him, strike Him, and mock Him. In that moment, the sinless One is treated as a sinner, and we, who are sinners, are declared righteous. This is justification.
Salvation, therefore, is not first about human change, but about what God has objectively accomplished. We no longer stand in our own righteousness, but live by the righteousness of Christ alone.
🙏 Prayer
Holy God, I look to Jesus, who obeyed in silence even under unjust judgment. Remove my pride and self-righteousness. Help me cling only to the righteousness of Christ. Instead of judging others, lead me to see myself before the cross. Let me live by Your grace.
🔍 Application
• Examine whether you appear righteous outwardly but reject the truth inwardly.
• In injustice and misunderstanding, choose faith that entrusts everything to God, like Jesus did.
• Hold firmly that the gospel is not your work but Christ’s work, and live daily by His grace.
💡 Meditation Point
Humans judge the truth, but God overturns that judgment. Even in unjust trials, God’s redemption stands firm. Today, abandon self-righteousness and live by the righteousness of Christ alone.
