Matthew 27:1–26 < False Accusation, Unjust Judgment >

📖 Matthew 27:1–26 < False Accusation, Unjust Judgment >

26 Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed Him over to be crucified.

✨ False accusations reveal human sinfulness

Jesus had no sin, yet He was falsely accused. The religious leaders handed Him over out of envy and fear, and Pilate, though knowing the truth, chose an unjust verdict to please the crowd. This shows how deeply fallen human nature is. We speak of justice, yet in reality, we ignore the truth to avoid loss. This is what the Bible calls “sin.” Before God, human beings cannot make themselves righteous.

✨ God’s redemption within unjust judgment

However, this unjust judgment was not accidental. God accomplished redemption through this event. Jesus was condemned in place of our sins. The cross of Christ is the very event that accomplishes salvation. At the very point where human evil reached its peak, God’s grace was most clearly revealed. “Christ alone” is our only hope.

✨ The gospel is built upon our failure

This passage is not meant to condemn us, but to save us. At times, we remain silent like Pilate and waver like the crowd. Yet Jesus bore the cross in our place. Therefore, we must not rely on our own righteousness, but on the righteousness of Christ.

🙏 Prayer

Righteous God, we confess that we compromise even when we know the truth. Help us to hold fast to Your grace, which accomplished salvation even in the midst of falsehood and injustice. Let us rely not on our own righteousness, but only on the righteousness of Jesus Christ, and live boldly before the truth.

🔍 Application

Examine whether you are ignoring the truth to avoid loss.

Choose to stand honestly before God rather than before people.

Place your trust not in your own righteousness, but in Christ’s righteousness.

💡 Meditation Point

Even when falsehood and injustice seem to prevail, God is accomplishing salvation. God’s grace is greater than our failures and sins. Lay down your own righteousness today and cling only to the cross of Christ.
