Psalm 94:1–23 < Entrust Vengeance to the Righteous Judge >
📖 Psalm 94:1–23 < Entrust Vengeance to the Righteous Judge >
23 He will repay them for their sins and destroy them for their wickedness; the LORD our God will destroy them.
✨ God is the Just Judge who does not remain silent
The psalmist cries out, “The LORD is a God who avenges. O God who avenges, shine forth” (v.1). In a world where the wicked prosper and the righteous suffer injustice, it may seem as though God is silent. But God is not one who fails to see (v.9); He is the Judge who will act with justice. Human anger is imperfect, but God’s judgment is perfect and righteous.
✨ God’s discipline is not abandonment, but grace
“Blessed is the one you discipline, LORD, the one you teach from your law” (v.12). God’s discipline is an expression of His love toward His covenant people. He does not abandon His people, but corrects them through His Word and ultimately leads them into righteousness. Therefore, suffering is evidence that we are in God’s hands.
✨ Vengeance belongs to God, not to us
It is natural to feel anger when we see evil, but vengeance must be entrusted to God. When we attempt to carry out vengeance ourselves, we intrude into God’s rightful place. The gospel shows us a different way. Because God will bring final judgment through Jesus Christ, we are called to live trusting in His justice rather than acting out of anger toward our enemies.
✨ A life that stands in grace
Psalm 94 is not merely about the destruction of the wicked, but about where the righteous must stand. “The LORD has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge” (v.22). Our security is found in God Himself. Therefore, even in injustice, believers take refuge in Him and wait for His justice. This is the posture of faith.
🙏 Prayer
Righteous God, in the midst of injustice and anger, help me not to take matters into my own hands. Teach me to entrust vengeance to You and to trust in Your judgment. In suffering, open my eyes to see Your refining grace through Your Word. And let me find true rest in Jesus Christ alone.
🔍 Application
When I face injustice, do I rely on my own methods before trusting God?
Do I receive God’s discipline as grace rather than complaint?
Am I releasing my anger toward my enemies and entrusting it to God’s justice?
💡 Meditation Point
God’s justice will surely be accomplished. Therefore, do not seek revenge, but entrust it to God. See grace even in discipline, and take refuge in Him today.
