📖 Psalm 97:1–12 < The Light and Joy of the Righteous >

11 Light shines on the righteous and joy on the upright in heart.

✨ True joy when God reigns

Psalm 97 begins with the declaration, “The Lord reigns.” Though the world is filled with confusion and anxiety, the Bible clearly proclaims that God is still ruling. His reign is marked by both justice and grace. We are often shaken by circumstances, but God never changes. His sovereignty stands above every situation. Even if our lives are unstable, His rule is never shaken.

✨ Light for the righteous, joy for those who belong to God

This passage gives a remarkable promise: “Light shines on the righteous.” This light is the light of life that comes from a relationship with God. But an important question arises: Who are the righteous? Scripture teaches that we cannot become righteous by ourselves. Only those who receive the righteousness of Jesus Christ by faith are called righteous. Therefore, the joy of the righteous comes from salvation. It does not disappear even in darkness, because its source is God.

✨ Living in the light even in darkness

Light is not something we produce; it is given by God. True change does not come through human effort but through the work of the Holy Spirit. That is why the gospel has the power to transform lives. Those who receive the light naturally experience joy, and that joy flows to others. This is the fruit of conversion.

🙏 Prayer

God, shine Your light into the darkness of our hearts. Help us rely not on our own righteousness, but on the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Let us live a life that rejoices not in circumstances, but in the gospel. Today, help us trust in Your reign and walk in Your light.

Examine whether you are losing joy because of your circumstances.

Reflect on whether you are relying on your own righteousness or on Christ’s righteousness.

Live today by sharing the light God has given you with others.

💡 Meditation Point

Those who live under God’s reign experience light even in darkness. True joy does not come from circumstances, but from Jesus Christ. Hold on to that light today and live with unshakable joy.
